History of the Club
Battle Table Tennis Club was founded in 1994 following the establishment of an
after school club at Battle & Langton School. The aim of the club was to provide
opportunities for those leaving Battle & Langton to be able to continue playing
the sport within the Battle community.
The club was founded by the current Head
Coach who, with help from the Foundation
for Sports and the Arts and Lion Sports
International, equiped the club at its then
base, St Mary’s Church Hall in Battle High
Street. In 2004 the club received a grant
from Awards for All, part of the National
Lottery to upgrade its equipment and to
develop the sport in the area for a period
of 12 months.
The club proved very popular and in 2007 moved to its current premises at
Claverham Community Sports College. This enabled the club to expand the
number of tables in operation. In recent years three tables which allow for
wheelchair play have been donated for which we thank Kevin for donating two
tables and Battle Round Table who donated a third.
The club now has 13 tables on site of
which 8 are used on a normal club
evening along with 2 robots, one of which
is often on loan to schools in the area.
During the coming years it is hoped that
players who have gorwn up with the club
will want to take on roles within the club
so that it may move forward into the
future and continue to provide an
opportunity for people within the local
community, and further afield, to enable
all that the sport has to offer.
